Excavation 2026
Something’s happening again in the former synagogue Mühlhausen! Since cracks have appeared in the eastern wall, a ground investigation has to be carried out. Therefore, on Monday, July 27, 2026, archaeologists from the Institute of Medieval and Post-Medieval Archaeology, led by Dipl.-Excavation Engineer Britta Ziegler, started to document the ground according to heritage protection standards.

By the middle of the week, the floor from 1756 was uncovered. And by the end of the week, under this stone floor, even remains of the outer walls of the previous building from 1680 were discovered. Here you can clearly see the southeaster corner of the early synagogue.
